THE EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI IN JAPAN
AustCham extends it deepest condolences to all those affected by the earthquake in Japan and consequent tsunami that was felt throughout the pacific region. The loss of life and damage to people and property is enormous. Recovery will require a sustained effort over the months and years ahead, and strong financial and practical support from the international community. AustCham is supporting the Australian Red Cross Japan and Pacific Disaster Appeal (details below). We encourage all those interested in participating in our breakfast briefing and webinar on the global economic implications of the earthquake in Japan to make a special donation to the recovery efforts.
GUEST SPEAKER:
PAUL GAMBLES
Director of MBMG Group
DISCUSSING:
"Economic Implications of the Japan Earthquake"
The immediate human cost of the Japanese earthquake and consequent tsunami has shocked and saddened communities across the globe. And while it pales in comparison, it is impossible to ignore the economic implications of such an event. There has been considerable media coverage of the potential impact of the disaster on economies and investment markets in Japan and globally. As the picture becomes slightly clearer each day, Paul Gambles will clarify the key economic issues and explain how they could also affect both Thailand and Australia.

The funds will be used to:
* Provide earthquake and tsunami affected communities, displaced families and their host families with emergency relief, equipment and recovery assistance
* Send specialist aid workers to assist in relief, recovery and longer term disaster management operations
* Support the work of Japanese Red Cross Society and other Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies from affected countries in assisting people devastated by this disaster.
